My aim is to create spaces where people can imagine better futures. My work is now with Sheffield Hallam University, where you can find out more about recent projects. This site exists as an archive of Urban Pollinators’ work.
My work is about researching, sharing and applying ideas about improving towns, cities and communities. I do that by writing, researching and explaining, connecting, training and encouraging, hosting conversations and events, speaking and listening.
I was the founding editor of New Start magazine in 1999 and was editorial director until October 2010. I was previously editor of Inside Housing magazine. I’m the author of How to Save Our Town Centres, published by Policy Press in 2015, and have been involved in a wide range of work on the future of high streets and town centres, giving evidence to a Parliamentary inquiry.
Alongside my work at Urban Pollinators I am an academic researcher, with a PhD from the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research at Sheffield Hallam University. Details of my academic work are available at my Orcid profile and Researchgate.
